Cells in culture behave with greater physiological relevance when cultured in 3-dimensional aggregates compared with conventional 2-dimensional monolayer culture. Thus, the bioactivity of candidate therapeutics tested in 3-D assays is more likely to predict the material's therapeutic potential in animal models or clinical testing.

AvantiCell R&D is progressively realising the benefit of 3-D cell culture in assays combining medium-throughput in multiwell plates with sensitive, fluorescence-based assay readouts.
