AvantiCell will attend the BIO2009 convention in Atlanta. The Company is participating in the business partnering and can be contacted either via this mechanism or via the Scottish Development International stand within the main Exhibition Hall.

March 2009
AvantiCell attended the BioEurope event in Milan, Italy. The CEO and CSO of the Company participated in the business partnereng event, meeting with a wide variety of companies and organisations wishing to access the Company's cell-based assay platform and the portfolio of human primary cells that will be launched in the coming months.

February 2009
AvantiCell has agreed terms with a leading European University to license a range of primary prostate cancer cell cultures and prostate cell lines, and has secured Scottish Enterprise support to build a range of cell-based assays based on the cells. The licence gives AvantiCell access to a range of cell types relevant to the disease’s aetiology, from hormone-sensitive, chemosensitive early tumours to late stage hormone-insensitive, chemoresistant disease. Assays based upon these cell types will be launched during summer 2009, and will be available initially as an in-house service.

October 2008
AvantiCell CSO Colin Wilde gave an invited presentation at the 2008 BioMalaysia Convention held in Kuala Lumpur on 7-10 October. The presentation entitled “Application of Cell-Based Analysis to Natural Products and Traditional Medicines” was included in a session on “Healthcare Biotechnology” which highlighted the therapeutic potential of natural products in the context of Malaysian environmental biodiversity.

September 2008
AvantiCell CEO Jo Oliver gave a presentation at the 2008 BioKorea Convention. The presentation entitied “Application of Cell-Based Analysis in Drug Discovery from Marine Sources” described AvantiCell’s use of cell-based analysis to evaluate novel marine microbial and fungal extracts for therapeutic potential to anti-cancer treatments. The presentation also illustrated how cell-based analysis can be used as a tool in extraction-process development and in monitoring quality of production.

June 2008
AvantiCell staff attended the Bio2008 convention in San Diego, and presented the company’s cell-based assay portfolio in a series of business partnering meetings. December 2007
AvantiCell Science Ltd has secured capital investment from Barwell plc to develop its cell culture-based service and product business. Barwell’s investment is matched by the Scottish Enterprise Co-Investment fund, and creates a platform for launch of the company’s range of cell-based assay kits, underpinned by the establishment of clean-room manufacturing facilities and complemented by dedicated marketing and sales expertise.

October 2007
AvantiCell Science Ltd has signed a Collaboration Agreement with the University of Malaya to develop new methods that will test the activity and safety of traditional medicines. The signing of the Collaboration Agreement marks the beginning of an exciting working relationship in which AvantiCell’s technology will be used to mine the enormous biodiversity of Malaysia’s rain-forests to identify new therapeutic agents.

August 2007
A consortium of three Ayrshire companies led by AvantiCell Science has begun a project, with investment from the UK Technology Strategy Board, to build the next generation of tools for use in the discovery of new drugs. The consortium, which includes biomaterials specialists Giltech Ltd and Culzean Medical Devices Ltd, will create a new generation of three-dimensional cell-based assays for use in drug discovery. The project will run for 2 years, with the partners and the Technology Strategy Board together investing £0.9M.
