Mammary cells plated on a reconstituted basement membrane such as EHS matrix form spherical structures in which a monolayer of cells surrounds a central luminal space. These structures are termed mammospheres. The image is of a single mature mammosphere. Cells are covered by the basement membrane materials such that individual cells are no longer visible.
