Cell-based assays incorporating cancer cell lines will be designed for the optimal detection of soluble, extracellular signals / biomarkers implicated in the progression, invasion, and metastasis of various cancers, without purification or removal of cells. Initial assays will be designed to detect matrix metalloproteinases (MMP-2, MMP-9) and plasmin.
